What is Justin.tv?
Justin.tv is a platform for live video online. The Justin.tv Show is the first of many life video shows to be featured on the Justin.tv Network.
How did you think of this idea?
Justin and Emmett were driving around late at night in Boston trying to figure out what to do about their previous startup (Kiko Calendar) after Google Calendar dried up the early adopter market. Justin realized that their conversation might be interesting for other young entrepreneurs, then thought that perhaps you can create really compelling content by just live broadcasting the lives of ordinary people, then thought... why don't I wear a camera on my head 24/7.
How do I get a camera?
Justin.tv is an open live video network and "cameras" are based on completely off the shelf parts. All you need to broadcast is a computer, a webcam, and an internet connection. If you want to set yourself up like Justin, we recommend using an ultra light laptop, extended life laptop battery, a portable usb webcam w/ microphone, and an EVDO Rev A modem.
How did the Justin.tv team meet?
Justin, Emmett, and Jacob grew up together in Seattle, WA. Justin, Emmett, and Michael graduated together from Yale in 2005. Justin and Emmett recruited Kyle as a Junior at MIT. We all currently live in SF.
I heard you guys are funded by Y Combinator. What's that?
Y Combinator is a new kind of venture firm specializing in funding early stage startups. We help startups through what is for many the hardest step, from idea to company. Its partners include: Trevor Blackwell, Paul Graham, Jessica Livingston, and Robert Morris. Go to ycombinator.com to learn more.
How do I advertise on the show/website?
There are a number of ways to advertise on Justin.tv - both within the show itself and on our webpage. To learn more please email: michael@justin.tv
When does Justin take the camera off?
Justin.tv is a 24/7 show but we let him take the camera off in the shower, when he is asleep (he sets the camera up on a tripod next to his bed), and when we have really important meetings (he is a co-founder of a company after all).
What do the Justin.tv team members do?
Justin wears the camera and handles content. Emmett programs the website. Kyle handles all the streaming video. Jacob designs the website. Michael does the business.
How do I start my own show?
Funny you should ask - we are on the verge of opening up our network. If you are interested in being a part of the open beta, enter your email everyday at 12 noon PST on the Justin.tv homepage. We will send out a few beta codes a day, so keep trying if you don't get one at first.
