Video Playlist is here!

Under Bill's leadership, we've just released a new feature: Video Playlists. Now, any broadcaster can setup a playlist of their past episodes and any videos they import from Youtube that will be played on their channel when they aren't broadcasting. Broadcasters check it out by going to your settings and clicking "Playlist"!

Other features added:

  • Twitter for broadcasters! We added a feature that automatically twitters for you when you go live! Broadcasters put you twitter username and password into your Settings.
  • Create episodes directly from the broadcaster! You can now easily create episodes by clicking record when you want to start, and then clicking stop and giving the episode a title, all from the broadcaster. 100% of your broadcasted video will still be saved like before, but with this tool you can easily create more episodes.
Have a great weekend!

Friday, which means another release!

It's Friday, which means we just rolled out another release. Here's what we did this week (well, the things you can see... we're working a lot of things in the background to make JTV run more smoothly):

  • Fixes to the Good broadcaster - This should work much more consistently on OSX computers now.
  • Notifications - We moved chat notifications up to above the chat box, and added a few more. Now, you'll get notified every time a favorite channel goes live. Finally, a reason to add more favorites!
  • Admin badges - Justin.tv employees now have a badge that says "Staff" next to their name. Members of the JTV Volunteer Response Squad now have "Admin" next to theirs. Take that all you fakers!
  • New Highlight Player - Our highlight player is much improved and should be much quicker now. Check it out!
  • Block friend requests - Don't want non-stop friend requests from Emmett? Block him!
  • Per Language Directory - Now sort channels by language in the directory!
Like what you see? Tell us at info [at] justin.tv or in the Help channel!

New Channel Page Layout

First off, this post should have been written before we rolled out the new features. My bad :(

We've enlarged the video on everyones channel and in doing so have widened the pages to 950 pixels. Your headers should have scaled on their own but if they did not, you can re-upload or create new ones at that size.

Enjoy the new page!

Update: we also have switched from .PNG to .GIF for all channel headers. The size of the files was slowing page-load and bogging down the servers!

New Front Page for Justin.tv

We've just released a bunch of new features to the site! Check them out:

  • New Front Page - We built a system to allow us staff to easily feature and highlight interesting content around the site, as well as get some more attention to some of the features you might not have seen before, like Challenges and Schedule. If you are a broadcaster who wants to be featured, fill out the form at the bottom of the front page and let us know!
  • Private Channels - Broadcasters who create a new account will now be able to add a password to that channel. That channel is now private, and won't show up on any lists on the site. Share the password only with people that you like.
  • Extended Viewer Profiles - Viewer profiles now include all highlights and challenges created and events subscribed to by that viewer.
  • Pick your Top 8 fans - Broadcasters can now show their love to their fans on channel pages.
  • Forum - Express your views and talk to staff at the Justin.tv Forums.
  • Badges - Get a badge like the one in the right column of this blog!
More site improvements will be coming soon!

Adam Beguelin (Truveo.com) talking at Justin.tv tomorrow

My good friend Adam Beguelin is giving a talk at the Justin.tv office tomorrow as part of our series of live tech-talks.

These talks are open to anyone. The Justin.tv office is at 36 Clyde Street, San Francisco. If you can't attend in person you can watch the talk live on the HackerTV channel, where you can participate in the live Q&A session via our on-site chat. If you don't catch the talk live, you can see it archived on that channel page later.

The event has a Facebook page.

Post Exit Startup Wisdom Adam Beguelin, PhD

Starting a company is an exciting, frustrating, and sometimes rewarding endeavor. I've done four startups, founding two. I've been through IPOs, acquisitions, near acquisitions, and the Venture Capital Nuclear Winter of 2001-2003. This talk covers some of the lessons I've learned along the way. I'll talk about raising money, spending money, and some opinions on how to build and release software in a Web 2.0 world.

Adam was the CTO and co-founder of Truveo, a leading video search engine acquired by AOL in December 2005. He is currently retired and living with his family in his wife's native country of Vietnam.
