XSS hole closed, sorry for the trouble

There was an XSS hole (we forgot to sanitize one of our fields properly), and as a result some accounts were compromised. I've closed the hole, removed the infected data, and changed all the cookies. We hash your password, so don't worry, not even we know what your password actually is.

I'll be taking another look through our codebase now to see if there are any other fields we might have missed.

Biggest Release Ever!

This week we get the pleasure of rolling out a few big things we've been working on for a while:

• Networks - You can now create your own groups of channels and members with chat, comments, a forum, officers, and more! Make a network on the Jonas Brothers, your Video Gaming group, or whatever else you want. Check out our official JTV network.
  
• Faster Page Loads - The site should be up to 50% faster than it has been over the past week!
• iCal Importer -Now you can specify an iCal feed (a feed of events) on your Channel Info settings, and we'll automatically import your events on to your schedule.
• Japanese - We've released the Japanese Language, which is awesome cause I know there's a lot of Japanese people who want to use the site...

Caught on JTV!

(This post has been edited to reflect the facts as we know them)

One of our users Chowda633, a Wootalyzer fan and Marine, who found his way to Justin.tv through the Woottv community, was robbed! During the day he was away for ear surgery and comes back home to notice that various things around his apartment were missing. His discovery of his misfortune is caught on Justin.tv as he calls the police. Afterwards one of our other users discovered in the archives the entire robbery and made a highlight for Chowda. With the help of Justin.tv, Chowda was able to call the police again and show them the archived video to provide as evidence. New Release: Korean and Hindi, Live Player Improvements, and more!

New Friday, new features! This time we've released:

• Removed Chat Disabled - At JTV, we're always super concerned with providing users with the best experience. We've removed the disable chat option, so that viewers will never end up on channels with no chat (which we think is pretty bad for new viewers). Instead, if you want to control your chat better, please use our friends-only mode!
  
• Live Player Improvements - We fixed some of the bugs we introduced last week, and tweaked the UI :P
• Hindi and Korean languages - Now enjoy JTV in even more languages!

I know this isn't that many user facing features, but trust me that we're working on several key improvements in the background. I promise we'll release something good next week (or at the very latest, the week after).

New Features: Friends-Only Chat, New Fullscreen and more!

This week we've released a few awesome features:

• Friends-Only Chat Mode - You can now limit your chat to friends-only mode, if you want to keep your chat exclusive!
• New fullscreen mode - Now get more video and less controls when you go to full screen!
• One-click mute and mouseover volume control - We're finally getting closer to a nice Flash player :)
• New languages! - We've translated the site into Vietnamese, Malaysian, Tagalog, Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. More languages coming soon!

SeeToo is not a virus

There have been reports that various virus checkers have been claiming SeeToo is a virus. Have no fear; this is a known bug caused by overaggressive virus checker. Please disregard the message until we get this resolved!

Thursday Office Hours

It's revenge of the field trip, or perhaps field trip part deux. We'll be going on a field trip again for Office Hours. Same time as last week 6:30 PM, Pacific Standard Time.

Friday Release!

It's Friday again, and that means release time. This week the guys have been working extra hard on scaling and stability for Justin.tv as well as fixed up some bugs.

Specifically, the broadcaster signup has been fixed, duplicate sign ups (by clicking twice in a row quickly) doesn't give you a 500 error any longer and by popular demand all of the embeds should be working now!

As always if you find a bug don't hesitate to give us a heads up about it through our recently released bug report system.

Tomorrow's Office Hours

Hey guys, tomorrow for Office Hours we will be going on a special field trip! I'll be broadcasting Office Hours right out of my home office at 6:30PM Pacific Standard Time. I hope to see you there!

And we're back

The downtime experienced this weekend was due to a combination of the new list of Recent Actions on profiles, and the fact that every new user is automatically friends with Justin. Basically, with everyone trying to say they were friends with Justin at the same time, the system ground to a halt!

I've fixed the problem, and everything should be back to normal. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Site rollback

We've been having some slowness issues on the site since our code release on Friday, so we're rolling back the site to pre-Friday's release. We'll port over the feature changes tomorrow.
