New Chat Embed and Clips Page

Hi JTV'ers!

This week we've made several improvements:

• New Chat Embed - We've improved the chat embed a lot, and will be adding all the features of the on site chat in the next week to the chat embed.
• Clips - Now you can sort clips by category and subcategory, and switch between list and grid views.
• Search - We've made search a lot faster.
• Channels - We've made channels faster. We did mess up a bit and make the about me sections small on accident (which is now reverted, sorry!), but it was all in the name of improving load times!

Goblin Invasion!

Ever wonder how a webcomic is made? Thunt from the popular webcomic "Goblins - Life through Their Eyes" has set up a Justin.tv channel to broadcast him while he draws the panels for his web comic.

I had a chance to chat with the folks who set up the broadcast for a bit and they are really awesome. I highly recommend checking out this broadcast if you've ever read a webcomic or wondered how a webcomic gets made, Thunt is just showing you one of the many ways a webcomic goes from the drawing board to completion.

New Record!

It was another exciting weekend here at Justin.tv, we hit over 101,000+ simultaneous viewers on site this weekend. This is a new all time record for us here on Justin.tv.

It's great to see these numbers still climbing!

Scavenger Hunt Winners

Yesterday we announced the winners of the scavenger hunt on Office Hours, so today for those of you who missed the announcement, Justin.tv would like to congratulate those who won and thank everyone who took part in this contest. I hope that you who took part in it had as much fun taking part in this contest as I did making it happen.

Our winner of a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 is instantwill who was the very first community member to have all 15 items found and submitted by 6:30am PST after the announcement of the items.

Mibbit gets justin.tv integration.

Many of the hardcore chat moderators on justin.tv are mibbit fans. Well, mibbit just got a great new feature to help you guys out. If someone pastes a justin.tv link into a chat-room that you're viewing on mibbit, the link will be displayed as a little jtv icon, which opens our embed in the sidebar when you click on it, like this:

Scavenger Hunt, Happy Hunting!

So the time has come and here are the list of the 15 items to locate on Justin.tv. All screen captures must be compressed into a single zip archive.

To get a copy of WinZip for Windows you can download it, here. You can put the files in a folder and zip the entire folder to send it.

For Mac, it's easy! You shouldn't have to download anything. Here is a quick tutorial from Apple of how to make an archive (or zip file) of multiple files.

Justin.tv Release!

We've been cleaning up a few things on the site, and here are a few improvements we released yesterday:

• New 'broadcast title' popup on broadcaster. This should be much less annoying for broadcasters!
  
• Your 'broadcast title' will be live indexed by search. Everyone should create a title when they broadcast, which will be show up in search and get you more viewers!
• New clip player. Should look and work a lot better now.
• No more channel selector. Pages should load much faster now!

Weekly Giveaways

Each and every week we will be giving out Justin.tv shirts to Community members. This happens one of two ways: Each week our Admins keep their eyes open for some community members who really stand out. Those Community members will receive a Justin.tv T-Shirt.

Also we're bringing back Office Hours contests, it won't necessarily be trivia every week but during office hours everyone will have a chance to win Justin.tv swag! So don't forget to watch office hours.

Scavenger Hunt! New JTV Contest

On August 18th Justin.tv plans on hosting it's first ever site wide scavenger hunt. The first eleven people to locate all of the items on the list and send screen-captures of those items in first will receive a prize badge for their profile and a Justin.tv T-shirt and camel pack. The first person to complete the scavenger hunt will receive full Justin.tv Prize pack containing a Logitech 9000, T-Shirt, Stickers and a Camel Pack.

On midnight PST August 18th a list of 15 items will be released, you have exactly two days to locate those items from throughout Justin.tv. They could be hidden or found anywhere: Broadcasts, highlights, blog posts, bulletins, networks or profiles. The sky is the limit.

Some great places to look are people's channels, so go look out for some channels you haven't been to before. You never know you might find something you like that you never thought you'd like.

Better Search on JTV!

This summer, our programming intern, Kenny, has spent a ton of time improving our search backend. His hard work has paid off in much better results, which we just released today! We've also rolled out a better interface for search (thanks, Jacob!) and modified headers for our main pages (directory, schedule, etc).

Who is that Vaughn Guy anyhow?

It's been over a year since the launch of Crapstats, created by our very own JTV admin Mark. Mark has been a great assett to Justin.tv and he has been dedicated to helping the site and to better the chatting experience. On May 6, 2008, Mark began work on a project, codenamed "VAUGHN". Along with his partner jspin (also known as fat_chema) together they have built an awesome chatbot who is everything Crapstats was and more. Vaughn has fully replaced crapstats and will be fully active. For a list of features and commands that Vaughn has check out Mark's website for Vaughn, here.

If you haven't seen Vaughn around yet, you're not looking hard enough. Take a chance to get to know Vaughn and play around with some of his commands. He truly is an awesome addition to Justin.tv.

Scheduled maintenance

One of the companies that provides service for us will be doing some scheduled maintenance . This will start at Midnight and last until 2am PST August 5th. During this time archive, highlight and episode viewing will be unavailable. Your archives will still be recorded but they will not be accessible to view until after the maintaince.
