Video Issues

We have some issues with video that are effecting a few of our users. We're aware of this and are working to bring everything back up and running at full speed ASAP.

As always, you guys are awesome for your patience and understanding.

Playlist Controls

We launched a new feature today that allows people to skip around the playlist that's on your channel when you're not broadcasting.

If you have a playlist, and it's set to play while you're not live, users will now see the title of the currently-playing video, and a couple of new buttons that can be used to skip to the previous or next video in the sequence.

Other than that we've put some work into generally polishing things. We hope you're enjoying watching JTV - we're certainly having fun working on it!

New Feature - Headlines

We're very excited to announce to you the launch of Headlines. Headlines will be the way to keep you up to date on what is cool, interesting and happening around Justin.tv. The best thing is these stories can come from Community Members just like you.

Every time you submit a story and it is published, your stories are promoted around the site and you can earn yourself exclusive new badges only to Justin.tv Headline contributors. We've almost forgotten the most important thing! If your story is really great and it gets mentioned in the press you get a chance to win a new iPod Nano.

We really hope that you are all as excited about Headlines as we are. This is the way for you as the JTV Community to show everyone just how great Justin.tv is and write about the goings on around Justin.tv that you think people should know about.

Watch Justin.tv at Work

Recent improvements to the video system now allow us to stream live video to your workplace.

How to watch at work without your boss finding out:
1) put on headphones and open a channel page channel
2) click video pop-out button (under the video player) and close the channel page
3) move the live video popout to the lower right hand corner of your screen

Pro tip: when you feel someone behind you quickly press alt-tab to switch back to excel.

Oct 16: Chat Ads and Clip Player Improvements

If you're a fan of chat you've probably noticed that we've released a trial of advertising in chat. Certain words are now being linkified when they are said, and hopefully link to a relevant sponsored page. We've had a lot of initial feedback, and have just released a bunch of changes to make them less obtrusive. Please keep telling us what you think!

Also this week, we've pushed out a few improvements that will make full screen look a lot nicer on the clip player. Look out for a new live player soon!

• login popup fixed in ie6/all browsers
• removed guides/tutorials link from /help
• made star ratings work correctly on tips
• removed erroneous route to channel/about
• archives should be more stable

You Be the Star: Winner

First off, I'd like to thank everyone who participated with this contest: the community who voted, the folks who churned out the ideas and the people who promoted this contest. It was a lot of fun for me to see the work that got put into this by people.

I'm glad to be announcing our winner in this contest, envelopesoflove. She and her fans put in a great deal of work to come up with the idea, promote her show and make the recording of their first test episode. She put a lot of heart and effort into her idea as well as those who helped out.

She'll be enjoying a full JTV prize pack! Don't forget to take some time to check out her channel and her show when it's on.

JTV Celebrity Halloween - Contest

It's that time again, Halloween is around the corner and that is why this month's contest will be Halloween Costume Contest. All month we'll be accepting your clips of everything involving your costume (make sure your submissions are Justin.tv Clip links, you have to broadcast it on Justin.tv). Our theme is Celebrity costumes; got a movie star, musician or politician you want to make a costume of?

Think you can make the best costume before Halloween? Let's see what you got! Be creative, be outrageous but most importantly have fun. Dress up, broadcast, tell a friend and join us on Halloween Night as we feature users who broadcast their Halloween best!

Entries will be accepted until November 3rd, Justin.tv Staff will be judging the entries and our winners will be announced during Office Hours November 6th.

Weekend Site Issues

Over the weekend we had some hardware issues at our datacenter. There was some downtime yesterday as you noticed and today there have been some services that have been responding slowly. Search had some downtime as well, but should be up and running again.

We're really sorry for the problems and associated issues that this has caused, our engineers have been tirelessly working to bring everything up to full swing again. We're greatly appreciate the patience and understanding that you've all given us this weekend. You're a great community.

Clip Creation Backup

Hey All,

Just to let you know we've found that clip creation for some instances were backed up from the point after you've created them to where they were available and ready to watch. We've found the issue and the backlogged clips should be all coming active to view soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but remember the clips that you made that still say they aren't ready for viewing yet haven't been lost. They are just taking longer than normal to process and will be viewable soon.

New Archive Policy.

Due to the increasing cost of storing archived broadcasts, Justin.tv will begin removing archives more than 14 days old starting Monday October 6th. We're still going to save all clips that have ever been created. So if there is anything that you specifically want to save out of your archives, simply create a clip.
