New Data Center Transition Complete!

We've finished moving our servers to our new data center, and are now back up to full functionality. Channels should be archiving again, the site should be humming along, and soon we'll be able to offer our users faster page loads and more video capacity. Thanks for your patience this weekend!

Wired Returns Live on Justin.tv
We're excited to have tomorrow at 11:00 AM, PST a live video chat with David Kravets, Staff Writer, Wired.com. David plans on discussing the ins-and-outs of an RIAA lawsuit and will be answering questions from viewers.
David Kravets writes about security, privacy and intellectual property in the online world for Wired's Threat Level blog -- with a focus on copyright law. As the legal affairs writer for The Associated Press, his works routinely appeared in every major U.S. newspaper, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Washington Post. In 2001, he was awarded an excellence in journalism prize by AP members for disclosing that Ford Motor Co. sold 20 million vehicles it knew were prone to stalling. His warped sense of humor can be witnessed on his fake news website, TheYellowDailyNews.com.

First Headlines Contest Winner
Headlines would like congratulate the winner of the first contest: William1! He took home the iPod Nano with the most published stories on Headlines from the start of the contest on November 6th to the end on November 13th.
Even though this contest is over don’t forget that you are always eligible to win an iPod Nano if your story is published in the press. In addition, we are going to be holding another contest in the very near future so keep checking Headlines for updates.
Our first winner of a free iPod Nano from being mentioned in the press was also announced on Office Hours last week. Justin.tv broadcaster, DylanLive, was featured in his local paper for his broadcasting on Justin.tv.
Congrats to both William1 and DylanLive!

Some Updates
Hey guys,
In the wee hours of the night we did a server move, which was no small feat! There are some associated issues that we're aware of still going on.
Our engineers have been tirelessly working at all the issues to ensure that everything is brought back up. We're really sorry about the sporadic problems and we're hoping everything becomes smooth again very soon.

JTV Headlines Contest
The way it works is the user with the most published stories on Headlines this coming week, will win a new iPod Nano. Obviously, the hard part is that not every story submitted to Headlines will be published so keep in mind the story has to follow the standard Headlines requirements.
Rules:
- The story must be written by you and not plagiarized from another source (we will be checking)
- The story must fall under the categories: Funny, Newsworthy, or Human Interest
- The story must be grammatically correct
Note:
Remember not every story that is submitted gets published so don't be offended if yours doesn't make it, just find another idea and submit a new story!
Contest ends November 13th 2008 and the winners will be announced over office hours.

Justin.tv Goes High Def
I'm pleased to announce that today Justin.tv officially supports DVD quality broadcasting using the h264 video codec - and it even works on a Mac!
Eric and I spent quite a lot of time on this feature, and we're very satisfied with the results. We believe our work truly raises the bar for the quality of online video, and we hope it will encourage many new and interesting applications for live broadcasting. The video looks crisp and plays smoothly, which really makes watching live video an enjoyable experience. Take a look at the 4PlayerPodcast channel or The Officecam (pardon our mess!) to see examples of how good it can look.
Tia has prepared a few guides to get you started with your own h264 broadcast. If you're on a PC, follow The Windows Guide. Mac users should use The Mac Guide instead. If you're new to broadcasting with h264, you might want to read Tia's Overview to see what it's all about.
One last thing - We don't record h264 broadcasts at this time, so if it's something you want to hang on to, don't use h264. This will be coming soon.
Happy broadcasting,
Kyle

Justin.tv back at 100%
Greetings,
We have worked extra hard to bring new capacity online this weekend and everything is up and running nicely.
With that said - a very limited subset of users might be having problems as a result of ongoing conflict between two major internet service providers - Cogent and Sprint. Here is some additional information about this dispute: http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/sprint-nextel-severs-its-internet-connection-to-cogent-communications,603138.shtml .
Unfortunately these connectivity issues are effecting the entire internet and are completely out of our hands.
Have a great weekend!
- Michael
