Some of you may have read a post on TechCrunch this morning asking a very important question, How Serious is Justin.tv About Fighting Live Broadcasting Piracy?

I’m glad to see that they’re asking. It’s an important thing for us and every other content distribution site on the Web to be thinking about. Unfortunately they decided that we’re not doing our part to aide copyright holders and I want to talk in the open about why we disagree.

I discussed lots of details in my post this morning about the specific projects we’ve worked with copyright holders on, from our Copyright Protection System to live filtering. One thing I didn’t mention was what other people have to say about it. When we worked with Fox and signed an agreement to begin automatic filtering, they said, “Justin.tv has taken a leadership position among live streaming sites by entering into an agreement with Fox to work together on copyright protection for live streaming content. Justin.tv, with consultation from Fox, is implementing an innovative and industry-leading filtering solution designed to prevent copyrighted content from appearing on Justin.tv without authorization.”

We take feedback from partners like Fox very seriously, and we use it to guide our future decisions. We’re happy to see that they’re excited by what we’re doing. That is the clearest measure of success for us on these projects.
